For a First Grade Friend

40" x 40"
Acrylic on Canvas
Detail of "Here and For Now"

In 2009, I reconnected with a childhood friend that I have known since first grade when we were in Mrs. Harmon's class at Chapin Elementary School. She now lives in Georgia. While she has never seen one of my paintings in person, she has seen many posted on facebook and commissioned this painting for her living room to compliment Sherwin Williams paint colors Connected Gray and Latte. She collects pottery so I wanted to capture a glaze look in the painting. She requested a lake scene since she lives on a lake. This is the result and this painting has many layers of paint. We finally came up with the title tonight..."Here and For Now" captures the calmness of the painting along with whatever might be happening in the scene. It also represents how the two of us have reconnected and redeveloped a friendship. And, since "for now" has been captured on canvas, it represents the forever relationship we have. The other title for this painting is "Better Than a Penley" after she rejected a painting by a well known Georgia artist! Hopefully she will be happy when she sees it in person....her sister will be delivering it to her soon! Thanks, Ginger!!!
